We love the collections created by Gemy Maalouf, an extremely talented designer from Lebanon. Even before our blog was born, we lusted after her designs. The collections always manage to capture the right balance between the traditional and the unexpected.
Fashion-forward Brides often hunger after a gown that will appeal to their modern and stylish tastes – but at the same time there’s a voice saying, “you get one shot – why not be a bit bridal?” (Not just us???). The collections from Gemy Maalouf have all hit the nail on the head for, modern & stylish meets “a bit” bridal…. And the latest collection *really* manages to do just this.
The new 2016 Bridal Collection is extremely feminine and taps into some of the trends that we’ve seen on the catwalks recently – think metallic fabrics, high-low hems, high necklines and extravagant embroidery (we’re pretty sure a number of dresses from this collection may make their way into our, “From Catwalk to Aisle” features).
We’ve been totally inspired recently by the host of celebrity brides we’ve seen over the summer return to traditional shapes (with a bit of a twist). In particular we loved Nicky Hilton’s custom Valentino gown with the intricate lace detail, high-neck and full ball-gown style. Which is why our pick for Wedding Dress Wednesday this week is this stunning creation…
We love how when teamed with a full skirt, capped-sleeves and a high neck, the placement of lace takes what could have been seen as a bit “risky” to demure and feminine. The bodice takes the simple and traditional gown to, “Wow!” without ever being “too much”. It’s sexy, but “bridal appropriate” all in one – Genius!!!
The full 2016 Collection can be viewed on the beautiful Wedding Chics website. There are so many beautiful gowns you won’t be disappointed!
What do you think to the Gemy Maalouf 2016 collection? xx
