Best Blusher Ever? | Nars Orgasm Review

As a self-confessed beauty junkie people often ask me advice about makeup, which I really love as I could literally spend hours talking about it.  Recently someone asked me what my all time favourite makeup item is, and as there are so many great products out there it was certainly a question that required a bit of a think.  I mean, the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliners are A- MAZ -ING and let’s not even get me started on the limited edition Chanel highlighter (Poudre Signee de Chanel) which was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever owned (seriously, I do have a makeup problem…but Google it and you’ll see what a thing of beauty it is, or sadly was…). I’m also really impressed with the recent L’oreal Infallible Matte foundation (my favourite drug store base) and literally anything Charlotte Tilbury releases.

However, it would only be right for my FAVOURITE item to be the product that has been in my collection for 17 years* (almost two decades!) – the Nars Orgasm Blush.  It was one of my first ever high-end make up purchases and I remember it well as it was also the first time I ever discovered Space NK!

I vaguely remember the hype around this product when it launched in 1999, probably because of the “naughty” name, (there’s also Deep Throat & Super Orgasm). But gimmick aside, this product in my opinion deserves its “cult status”.

Nars describe this as “natural, healthy-looking color that immediately enlivens the complexion”.  I’d agree with that description, it’s the perfect warm pinky-peach colour – a gentle coral. It’s not too pink, it’s not too peach, it just makes you look like you have a natural flush (hence the name…). The colour pay off is amazing and because the shade is such a natural flush colour, it goes with most make up looks (although I avoid it with bright red lips – too much).

I LOVE this, but it is a bit of a marmite product, people either rave about it (like me) or really dislike it.  The reason for the negative reviews (other than the price, £23) is that it’s too shimmery. Matte blusher fans won’t like this –  there is fine golden shimmer running through it – but that’s why I love it. If you view this as blusher/highlighter hybrid you won’t be disappointed – it will certainly give you a glow.  Instead of just applying it to the apples of your cheeks, wear it in a more sculptural way and take it over your cheekbones (just try to avoid the Robert Palmer Addicted to Love video look!). That way it will create a highlight effect as well as a flush of colour.

Nars Orgasm blends easily and I’ve found that it works well on most skin-tones (although people with deeper skin tones may prefer Nars Deep Throat). I love it so much that I’ve even purchased the Nars Multiple in Orgasm (oooh, naughty name again).  This is basically a cream version of the colour which can be worn on lips and cheeks.  In my opinion this does nothing on the lips, but as a cream blush it gives a beautiful natural glow to the face and is perfect for no makeup makeup looks.  It makes you look like you, but prettier and that’s something I can totally get behind!

OOOOH – something for Fact Fans -I also read somewhere that the annual bulk weight of Orgasm sold is equivalent to that of a Lamborghini!

Nars Orgasm Blush is £23 and Nars Multiple Orgasm is £29
