You’d have to hiding under rock not to know that last night was the 88th Academy Awards in Hollywood – and most importantly, the night Leonardo DiCaprio finally got his much deserved oscar!
We love a good award show to draw bridal fashion inspiration – luckily for us, last night did not disappoint! It might sound a little dramatic, but the closet a real life woman gets to her Oscar fashion moment is when she walks down the aisle. Guests are no doubt playing, “guess what the bride will wear” trying to figure out if she’ll go for a princess dress, something classic, or “white” as most of our male friends would guess…. At any wedding there’s that sudden moment of awe when the bride first walks in and everyone can see what she’s wearing for the first time.
So if you’re still looking for your wedding dress, here are some of our favourite looks from last night which we think draw on the latest bridal trends and could help inspire your bridal look.
… Jennifer Lawrence (with her great new haircut!) chose to wear a plunging lace gown with tiered skirt from Christian Dior’s Spring 2016 collection. Charlize Theron (AKA The Queen of nailing Sexy and Sophisticated) stunned in a figure-skimming red Dior dress that plunged almost to the navel. Best Actress winner Brie Larson opted for a stunning royal blue embellished dress by Gucci with low neckline and pretty pleated, ruffled skirt. (We first noticed blue becoming THE colour of award-season at the SAG Awards. See our post here).
Brides to be who dare to go low should check out bridal designers like Inbal Dror and Galia Lahav for a wide selection of plunging necklines.
… A Whisper & Blush favourite bridal trend which is no doubt set to continue to grow in popularity thanks to the number of celebrities who are rocking the look on the red carpets. Cate Blanchett chose a beautiful pale blue Armani gown which was covered in pearls, crystals and flower details. Daisy Ridley wore a pretty fitted ballerina – length Chanel Haute Couture dress (also in pale blue) with embellished detailing. Chrissy Teigen looked radiant in her nude illusion Marchesa dress with red floral embroidery and beading. The pregnant star even shared an Instagram shot of her stylists sewing her into the dress before she hit the red carpet (let’s hope she didn’t need the loo!)
One of our favourite 3D embellished dresses is by Riki Dalal – check out our interview with the designer here.
… Dresses that make an impact from behind are always stunning and two ladies that nailed this last night were Olivia Wilde in her pleated Maison Valentino gown with open back (which did divide opinion amongst fashion critics) and Rachel McAdams in her emerald green August Getty dress. A simple figure-skimming silhouette at the front with a very low plunging back.

… Now she’s chosen to leave her raw meat at home, Lady Gaga has been slaying the red carpet recently with an altogether more glamorous look. Last night she made the top of many a “Best Dressed” list with her Brandon Maxwell jumpsuit. In a sea of dresses, she totally stood out from the crowd. While Elizabeth Banks wasn’t at the Oscars, the caped Ralph & Russo jumpsuit she wore to the Vanity Fair party was beautiful, we love the embellished top and wide leg trouser.
Our favourite bridal jumpsuits are by Whisper and Blush favourite, House of Ollichon and Laure de Sagazen.
