A Little Get Away | Staycation in Cornwall

Sometimes it can be all too easy to dismiss England for a getaway – especially when we’re not renowned for having the greatest of weather (just an obsession with talking about it!), but recently my husband, dog and I found ourselves in desperate need of a break and decided to head approximately 200 miles south to Cornwall – in February! And I’m so glad we did…

…Being in Cornwall so ‘off-season’ meant we had whole beaches to ourselves; quiet streets to explore; and the ability to be able to rock up to any (dog-friendly) restaurant and get seated!  Yes, it was cold. Yes, we had a bit of rain (okay, we had one day of gale force winds and snow…) but as these pictures show, we also got incredibly lucky and got to appreciate the beauty of Cornwall without the crowds of high-summer.

Our home for the week was the gorgeous Landrends Barn (Skyber) we found on Cottages4You.  We’ve booked a few places to stay via their ‘Luxury Collection’ over the years and always been impressed with the standard of accommodation, and this place was no exception.

Tucked away in a quiet rural location enjoying views over the Kensey Valley and surrounding countryside, the barn conversion just outside of Launceston made for the perfect base to explore. All within a drive  of about 20 mins  – 50 mins we could get to a good selection beaches; the famous tourist traps of Boscastle and Tintagel (without the crowds); the small sandy cove of Trebarwith Strand; the foodie town of Padstow and the beaches of Polzeath.
The inside of the barn conversation was beautiful. All open-plan living across one floor (the top floor) with a wood-burner in the centre to keep the place warm (perfect for our snow day!), a fantastic bathroom and a ridiculously comfy bed.  The owners had provided great finishing touches including a bottle of wine; wood for the fire and biscuits for our dog.

From our little base we made the most of wrapping up warm and trying to see as much of the beautiful scenery as we could pack in – finding time obviously to indulge in Cornish Cream Teas and Fish & Chips – it would have been rude not to!
