Wedding Theme | Gothic Romance (AKA: Non-tacky Halloween Styling)

With a whopping £33m spent on celebrations last year, Halloween is becoming a bigger and bigger deal in the UK.  It seems we are beginning to follow the lead of the US with many people embracing fancy dress parties and trick and treating.

But what if you’re planning a wedding?  How do you give a nod to this time of the year without having to walk down the aisle dripping in fake blood and being married by someone in a Frankenstein costume? (Unless you REALLY want to go for it)

…Halloween (and Autumn in general) gives a great opportunity to do away with the pastel colour palettes from the summer and embrace deeper, darker, richer tones which are far from scary and make for a stunning wedding day statement.  Here we’ve pulled together some of our fave looks and ideas.

The Save The Date…

… We love the halloween vibe this black ribbon and intricate key brings to these save the date cards.

The Wedding Invitations…

…It’s possible to find a halloween inspired invite by looking at gothic/victorian styling without having to go down the spider and skull route as these invites available on Esty proove.

The Dress…

We’re huge fans of the intricate lace wedding gowns by Hermione de Paula, but who says your wedding dress needs to be white? We love this black dress in their collection. Perfection.

The MakeUp…

… Autumn/winter is the perfect time to rock a deep berry lip. Just make sure to choose a lip product with staying power – we’d recommend a matte lip stain.

The Headpiece…

… We’re love Hermoine Harbutt’s exquisite bridal headpieces but for even more of a statement, why not check out her Red Carpet Collection which features pieces like this black Gatsby headpiece.

The Flowers…

… Black and burgundy blooms create a real impact and look incredible as a bridal bouquet as this arrangement we found on Pinterest prooves.

The Decor…

… Candlelight and Crows… We love the slight twist this look gives to rustic wedding styling.  This would work so well for anyone booking barn as their wedding venue.

The Bridesmaids…

… A little black dress never goes out of style.  Pick a dress your bridesmaids will thank you for like this simple but stunning dress by Lela Rose.

The Wedding Guest…

… Embrace this seasons embellished trend with this dress by Dutch label, Daivor. We think this would look awesome teamed with scarlet heels, or a pair of Louboutin’s for a little pop of red.

The Finishing Touches…

… We really really want to try this spooky looking ‘Sleepy Hollow Cocktail’ we discovered on The Jewels of New York. Although as it contains Absinthe it may be pretty potent!

The Honeymoon…

… Why not pay a visit to the home of Dracula? We found this boutique guesthouse in Transylvania via Mr & Mrs Smith.
