SAG Awards 2017 | Bridal white

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards were let’s say, a little disappointing to say the least, and I’m not talking about the films or winners but the red carpet A-list style. It just seemed to be lacking and I can safely say it’s my least favourite of the award season so far.

That said, there were three main colours that dominated the red carpet – white, black and metallic. So with this being a bridal style blog, it’s only right that I focus on all those wearing white on the night!

So let’s start with the best (as there were some shockers too!)…

From top left to right…

E! star, Giuliana Rancic, nails beaded off white chic with this custom made gown from Yousef Al-Jasmi, originally from Kuwait, this designer nails elegant sophistication. I’m not always a fan of the halter-neck but on Giuliana’s tiny frame it works.

Next up is Kaley Cuoco in bridal favourite Marchesa, this gown combines a few recent bridal trends – 3D florals, netting and a pink tint. The only thing letting this down is the slightly odd dress/necklace combo.

We then have Viola Davis looking serene in a classic Vivienne Westwood gown. Now although this isn’t fashion-forward, it fits her frame perfectly and she looks uber confident and relaxed in it.  However it’s a shame she went for a black clutch as it’s too harsh and detracts from the gown, a metallic one would be far better.

Okay, so you may not walk down the aisle in a gown like Julie Bowen’s but I had to include this as cut-outs are really big at the minute and this J.Mendel gown hits the trend in all the right places. Some would say it’s a bit doily esc but there is something about it I love!

Finally there is Brie Larson in another bridal designer, Jason Wu. The off centre neckline works well on her and she’s kept the accessories simple to allow the dress to shine, however I personally think it needs taking up half an inch to look even sharper!

Now to the white washes…

Firstly, what was Natalie Portman thinking when she chose this Dior gown?  I know she’s pregnant, I know it’s Dior and I know she doesn’t always make the best choices, but this looks more like a 1890’s nightgown.

Kerry Washington just doesn’t hit the mark with this beaded, lace, long-sleeved Cavalli Couture gown. It doesn’t hang right (I think because it’s actually very heavy) and the sleeves look too long. I’m also not a fan of the off the shoulder bodice, it’s a mixture of too many styles and tries too hard.

Meryl Streep usually dresses well to compliment her shape and age, however this Valentino gown just doesn’t cut it.  I think it would be fine if it was pinched in at the waist to give her some shape but unfortunately it just looks frumpy.

Next up is Ryan Michelle Bathe and all I am saying on this is far too much material and Dunelm curtains – ouch, sorry.

Finally, Charissa Thompson is showing too much skin, the neckline sinks too low, the split too high and she should of worn her hair up in a sleek top knot!

Now bring on the Oscars….!
