Makeup Staples | My Favourite Makeup Products

One of my big passions (other than fashion and bridal style of course) is make up.  I just love it.  From cheap as chips drugstore products to blow the budget high-end and everything in between, I just can’t get enough of it.  I love trying out new products and the latest innovations and telling friends and family about my latest discoveries.

To me, my makeup is a collection.  Some people have stamps, I have lipstick. I have drawers full of products and probably have more than enough to start my own beauty boutique!  I often get asked, “Do I need it all?” (Obviously, “No”…) The the next question is, “What are your favourites?“. So I thought it would be a nice idea to pull together my seven all-time favourite, Go To’s that never let me down…

My first pick is the Bourjois’ 123 Perfect Colour Correcting cream. I have probably tried every foundation going at every price point, but this is the base I reach for most and will always pack if I go away. It’s a beautiful consistency – hydrating without being greasy –  and gives a good light to medium coverage.  Enough to cover flaws but not too much to look and feel heavy.

Concealers can be problematic for me as I rarely use them to cover blemishes (I just rely on my base unless it’s for a special occasion) so I just need a good under eye brightener.  The issue I have is under my eyes can be a bit dry so I am prone to concealer creasing – not the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Concealer, which glides on smoothly and has never creased even without me setting it.

Which leads me on to powder.  I don’t like to apply too much and really detest the whole “baking” trend that people go mad for on YouTube (*eye roll*). I love Givenchy’s Le Prisme Visage which lets your natural skin glow through, making you look fresh, not shiny.

Blusher and bronzer are my best friends. They help to cheer up my face and stop me from looking washed out and tired.  I’ve banged on enough about Nars Orgasm on this blog, both the cream version (Nars Multiple) and the powder never lets me down.  For bronzer I use Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow powder, but two/three shades deeper than my skin which I find makes a for a really natural look.

I have short, stubby lashes so these, ‘false lash effect’ promises don’t wash with me.  That being said, the Givenchy Phenomen Eyes mascara works wonders for giving the illusion of longer, thicker lashes.  I worked as a Counter Manager for Givenchy when the original formula launched and I stand by this as the best high-end mascara out there, especially with the recent reformulation.  The wand just takes a bit of getting use to but the results are worth it.

Finally, a pop of colour on your lips always helps to make you look pulled together and bring life to your face.  I must own a lipstick in every shade imaginable but probably my most-loved and the colour that works well no matter the time of year (or my hair colour – I flip between brown, bronde and blonde!), is Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl.  A beautiful vivid pinky red that lasts even through an evening meal.
