On Friday 21st April bloggers from across a vast range of industries such as Parenting, Fashion & Beauty and of course, Weddings & Events, to name but a few, came together to celebrate digital content creation at the prestigious UK Blog Awards 2017. Due to the fact, we were both heavily pregnant; feeling sick, bloated and altogether too uncomfortable to travel to London last year, sadly we missed out on the event. But this year nothing was going to keep us away, especially as we were so proud to have been shortlisted in the Weddings & Events category once again.
The icing on the cake (other than the promise of a rare baby free ‘Girls Night Out’) was the fact the lovely ladies from one of our favourite bridal designers, Katya Katya Shehurina, were kind enough to lend us gowns from their Autumn/Winter 2017-2018 Occasions collection. On the morning of the awards, we were quick off the mark to hotfoot it to their beautiful Soho boutique to play dress up and pick out our favourite gowns.
There’s a huge emphasis on lacework and embroidery with a Victorian/gothic romance twist in the Katya Katya Shehurina 2018 Occasions collection. A lot of the designs feature optional bodysuits to layer underneath with long fishnet sleeves to toughen up the looks and provide a modern, rock-star twist. It’s a great idea as it allows the wearer to either go all out embracing their grungy-side or to wear the pieces without the bodies for a softer, more romantic look. Fab if like us you have an eclectic sense of style depending on your mood for the day.
Kate was obviously feeling more “sweet, innocent with an edge” last Friday and I was in a dramatic “punk meets princess meets Spanish señorita” mood as our picks from the collection prove.
Kate chose Morrigan. A pretty lilac French lace top that contrasts with the deeper blue tones of the floor-length skirt. An embroidered bee across the chest is a real attention grabber (it got A LOT of love from bloggers and judges at the awards!) and to top it off – IT HAS POCKETS! (Yes, there is a need for capital letters. POCKETS! Name one woman who doesn’t get excited at a dress with pockets!) She teamed it with a high ponytail and minimal jewellery so all the attention was on the bee and the shape of the dress. Stunning!
I went for Zephyr. It’s a silky black dress that gathers around the body in a unique way that gives it a lot of movement and freedom. The slit in the leg gives a bit of sass and the beautifully embellished belt pulls in the waist to stop the dress swamping the wearer too much. It is baggy in fit, but that allows for extra canapés – always thinking!) This dress comes with a nude body suit that’s completely transparent apart from the embroidered details on the arms and shoulders. However, me being me, I switched it up a little and chose one of the fishnet bodysuits instead and added a pop of colour with a bright red lip.
We felt amazing in the dresses and attended the awards in high spirits excited for the night ahead. Having had such a fab day playing dress up followed by brunch at The Wolseley, a spot of shopping in Selfridges and a cheeky afternoon champagne cocktail; we didn’t think the day could get any better. Well, it did!…
…We only went and won our category for the second year in a row! We were both in such a daze when our names were called we have no recollection of what music was playing in the background as we picked up our award. It was unexpected especially as we were in such a tough category with the fabulous Devine Bride, Way Out Wedding, Redamancy Wedding Planning, Bridal Chic in the City and Hanami Dream also representing wedding blogs.
We just want to take a moment to say thank you so much to everyone who nominated us in the first place, voted for us and who reads our little corner of the Internet. We really are eternally grateful. At the moment (although, “Aim high, dream big”) we are not “full-time bloggers”. We still have to juggle Whisper and Blush with our full-time “real jobs” while adjusting to being first-time Mums. (Parenting bloggers we salute you! It’s so hard to blog with babies – Kate’s George is teething and my Grace has decided daytime snoozing is no longer for her!) It honestly means the world to us when we meet people who read and like our blog and we’ve met some lovely, inspiring (usually) women (GIRL POWER! #BOSSWOMEN) along the way. So thank you. We’re more motivated than ever so who knows where we’ll be this time next year. Three -times winners? Can we do a hattrick? Watch this space! xx
While we were in the Katya Katya Shehurina boutique we were lucky enough to take a look through the latest bridal collection too. Think vintage lace, splashes of colour courtesy of the slips under the dresses and pretty embroidered belts. There’s even a sassy high-low hem dress with cut out waist detail and pretty tulle skirts for those wanting a soft romantic look. It’s well worth checking out.
