To me, lipstick is a simple and easy way to switch up your look. Just adding a bright pop of colour to your lips can brighten up your whole face and make you look like you’ve made more of an effort than you really have. While I am very fond of my Christian Louboutin ‘Just Nothing’ lipstick for a barely-there, everyday look (review here); I love playing around with brighter, bolder and more fun colours in the summer. Here are my favourites…
… NYX Matte Lipstick in Indie Flick – A bright orange/red lipstick is perfect for summer and looks especially good with a bit of a tan. I love this lipstick to throw on and look instantly “done”. (Great when running late!) The only slight niggle I have with this is that it can be a bit drying, but applying lip balm sorts it out and it’s so cheap, I ‘m willing to overlook it.
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl – While this is a round up of summer lipsticks, I love this just as much in the Winter (and Spring and Autumn for that matter). It might just be my fave lipstick EVER (big praise indeed). The big selling point for me is the foolproof pencil application meaning you don’t need to muck around with lipliner. I also love the fact that (on my lips anyway) it has a slight pink undertone which works well with a tan as well as pale skin.
Mac Lipstick in Up The Amp – This is a bit of a “love it/ hate it” shade. It’s a purple/pink that’s a bit unexpected but not,“too much”. I don’t wear it as often as the others but when I do I’m always reminded of how much I love the texture of the MAC amplified creme formulas. Good pigmentation and really hydrating. Just not that long lasting.
Lime Crime’s Centrifushia – I wasn’t going to include this as it appears it’s no longer being made. But I do love this shade when I want a punchy, bright pink pop of colour. I’ve also seen a few available on Amazon so think I’ll snap some up before it goes forever! It’s very creamy so does come off when eating and drinking, but it does leave a bit of a stain. I also like to use a lipliner with this to keep it in place and stop it feathering.
So there you go. My favourite orange, red, purple and pink summer lipsticks. Let me know your recommendations.
