People can be a bit snobby about weddings and set in their ways when it comes to tradition and what’s the “norm”. We’ve talked before about how the word “princess” can almost be a dirty word in the world of weddings (see here). If you so much as mention a desire for a Disney-themed shindig no doubt someone will pipe up with a snide remark or smirk. But we say Sod them. It’s your big day, have fun and do what makes you happy. It’s perfectly possible to combine a bit of tongue- in -cheek humour with elegance and a few kitsch ideas not only make guests smile, it reflects you and your partner’s personalities
Myth 1: “Balloons look cheap”
Are you kidding me? Take a look at these and then eat your words. They can be chic and classy or can be used to add a fun pop of colour to proceedings. They will also make a wallet-friendly way to fill space if you’re on a more modest budget.
We love how these balloons subtly float like bubbles above the simple greenery and candles on the table.

If you think balloons only work in an informal setting, think again. We love how these balloons compliment the ornate room and traditional pink floral displays.

Think balloon arches are reserved solely for High School Proms and 70th Birthday parties? Nope. Mixed into a floral arch, balloons add an element of interest and create a modern, informal look.

Myth 2: “A Disney-themed wedding is a bit tacky”
If you’re both Disney fans, your guests are likely to know this about you and are probably likely to appreciate the personal touches you could make.
These Alice In Wonderland drinks are a great way to welcome guests to your drinks reception.

We love this nod to Beauty and the Beast without being “too in your face”.

Your wedding cake is often on display throughout the whole wedding breakfast and reception, so why not have fun with it? We love this Cinderella-inspired cake. This could also work really well for a baby shower (just change the birds to pink and blue accordingly!)

Myth 3: “A pink wedding dress is a bit too “Barbie” for me”
If you read this blog regularly you’ll know we definitely disagree with this. A pink wedding dress can look uber-modern, chic and pretty and sometimes more flattering on the skin than stark white. In particular, we love subtle blush pink gowns where some guests may not even notice that it’s coloured.
This V-neck silk wedding dress from the Fall 2017 Kelly Faetanini collection with its silk organza petal detail in blush ombre is so, so, so pretty and perfect if you don’t want head-to-toe pink.

This smokey pink dress by Inbal Dror would certainly make an entrance!

We love the floral appliques, tulle skirt and subtle blush colour on this gown.

We hope you’re embracing your quirky side for your big day – let us know what you’re doing (we’re nosey like that!)
