Okay, so we tried to avoid writing a post about Meghan Markle. We felt that since her engagement to Prince Harry there would be so many wedding (and non-wedding blogs) writing stories about her style; what sort of bride she’ll be; how to ‘get her look’; that we thought we’d give it a swerve to stay original. But the fact is, both Kate and I love Suits (and did before the news of her romance with Harry) and I’ve always admired her style both in her TV show and in real-life, so we felt we couldn’t ignore it anymore. We had to write a post about Meghan.
Here are some of our favourite looks we’ve seen on Meghan and a stab at what sort of wedding dress she may choose to wear in May 2018 – we cannot wait to see it!
… Meghan is one of those women who can pull on ‘scruffs’ and still look polished. The secret (and what she does so well) is investing in quality basic pieces; ensuring things fit well and elevating everyday jeans and joggers with statement accessories.
Blue denim and a simple white top, be it a tee or a crisp shirt is a go-to look for off-duty models, celebrities and fashionistas. And it’s no wonder as it’s just so easy and flattering. Make like Meghan with a J-Crew Perfect Shirt, the J-Crew leather laced sandals and their Franny sunglasses – it appears she’s a J-Crew fan! A Chanel Gabrielle bag adds an expensive element – in both looks and the price tag! (God, I want this bag sooooo bad!)
A beautiful good quality classic coat and chic Mulberry Bayswater bag in an eye-catching colour can take ripped denim to another level – perfect airport attire.
… The look I love the most on Meghan is when she’s dressed for a smart/casual event. Not full-on red carpet glam, but totally relatable ‘done up’ looks. Killer heels, leather leggings, quirky cuts. Meghan always looks elegant, I think that’s why I like her style so much.
How fabulous is this Tuxedo inspired metallic mini dress from one of Meghan’s favourite brands Misha Nonoo which she wore to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in 2015?! We love the simple wavy hair and perspex clutch.
Potentially a step too far for royalty we love this throw back to 2014 New York Fashion Week where Meghan topped her white Herve Leger dress with a studded leather jacket and Louboutins.
… A look we will no doubt see more of now Meghan is set to marry royalty and one it appears people are keen to replicate. The chic white Coat from Canadian label, Line which she wore when the couple announced their engagement to the world’s media sold out in minutes; and the tote bag by British brand Strathberry also sold out after she was seen carrying it during her first official outing with Harry. Not a million miles away from her character Rachel Zane in Suits, Meghan seems to have a penchant for pencil skirts and body-con styling. We really liked the look where she teamed her navy Wolford top and Veronica Beard skirt with Sarah Flint leopard-print block heels and a Marc Jacobs bag for an appearance on The Today Show.
We also love the way Markle slicked back her hair and sported a black Theory blazer with leather Helmut Lang trousers and nude Aquazzura heels at a Suits event in 2016. She opted for very similar shoes by the same designer for her engagement announcement – proof that if something works for you…!
Wedding Day Style…
So, the big question. What will she wear to marry Harry? A lot has been made about her ‘having’ to choose a British designer, but I feel the pressure is off her to do this compared to Kate Middleton so potentially she may opt for an American or Canadian designer given her strong ties to the country. Personally given her love for structured, elegant outfits and the fact she has already stated she likes ‘simple’ wedding gowns – I’d love to see her in something like this Victoria Beckham wedding dress that the designer created for her BFF Eva Longoria. How amazing will that be – Posh Spice designing a Royal wedding gown?!!!
What do you think to Meghan’s style? Which designer do you think she’ll choose for her wedding dress?
