We all lead busy lives, whether that’s looking after children full time, going to work full time, a mixture of both, squeezing in ‘me time’, writing blogs 😉 and ensuring we spend time with our loved ones, all of which is important. Throw into that trying to organise a wedding and you have some very manic people wandering about!
Todays post is about the ‘me time’ side of it because very recently my sister-in-law got engaged (congrats again Abi!) and we all decided to go down to Kent (where they live) for a celebratory weekend, oh and also celebrate our nephew’s sixth birthday – it was an action packed one!
To our surprise my husband had organised a surprise trip (and childcare – thanks Carol!), for both my sister-in-laws and I, to a place we’d never heard of before…this beautiful hideaway was called Stourview Cottage.
Now to say the weather wasn’t the best was an understatement (the image above is from their website!) but even so as we drove up the hilly winding drive we were met with a beautiful 300 year old cottage, hot tub, treatment outbuilding and what can only be described as a hobbit cabin! Then no sooner has we got out of the car, we were greeted (in the pouring rain) by Sara, the owner.
Having not done any private spa days before we had no idea what to expect but Sara soon explained what was included, tailored everything to us, and made us feel instantly at ease. We couldn’t get changed quick enough as the hot tub was calling our names!
The location is stunning and everywhere you look is classical English countryside – I can now see why they call Kent ‘The Garden of England’!
I have to say that I have been lucky enough to go to quite a few spas and experience numerous massages but as part of our day package we received a facial, back, neck and shoulder massage, eye brow shaping and mani or pedi…and the massage was the best I have had in a very long time! We each in turn came out of the treatment room like a more dazed version of Bridget Jones when she’s just got out of the convertible, but you know it’s a great massage when you just didn’t care what you looked like, we felt bliss!
We had booked the day spa package but most people would use it as a chance to have an overnight pampering break, and if you’re planning a hen party, it’s great because you have everything in one place – spa treatments, hot tub, lounge, bedrooms your own kitchen/diner and beautiful views! They can also arrange for truffle making and/or belly dancers to entertain you in the evenings!
It certainly made me reassess what a spa break should entail and because it’s private hire you have the beauty of being the only ones using any of the facilities and accommodation. It’s got 5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor for a reason!
