As we’re still relatively new to the blogging scene we sometimes experience, “pinch me” moments where we can’t believe how lucky we are and how far we’ve come since we first started our blogging journey. One such moment happened earlier in the week when I was invited to an exclusive blogger event in London at The Ritz to view the latest 2018 Jenny Packham bridal collection.
Hosted by the wedding planning app and online tool, Bridebook, not only was this the first blogger event to ever be held at The Ritz in its 110-year history, Jenny Packham herself (yes, the real Jenny Packham!) was in attendance to answer some questions and showcase her latest 2018 bridal collection. For lovers of bridal fashion and fashion in general for that matter, this was a dream come true. I mean, sitting down to a Michelin-star breakfast with a fashion design legend – how utterly amazing is that!!!
On arrival, guests were presented with a Bellini (it was 9 am and I was yet to have my morning cuppa but who’s checking!) and spent time mingling with other guests. A selection of engagement rings, wedding rings and beautiful necklaces were dotted around the room, beautifully placed on top of exquisite floral arrangements by Paul Thomas Flowers. There was some serious bling on show and I was particularly smitten with a diamond and tanzanite pendant that would match a ring I have perfectly!
After the drinks reception, we were then taken through to the opulent William Kent room, a spacious private dining room dominated by a breath-taking coved ceiling in grand Italian Renaissance style. A huge table that can seat up to 24 people was laid out with a delicious spread of fresh fruit juices and freshly baked pastries. Mayfair-based florist Paul Thomas Flowers, who create all of the beautiful floral arrangements in the public areas of The Ritz had created one of the most beautiful table displays I’ve seen. A collection of low vases in differing sizes and finishes were filled with a dome of seasonal flowers in clashing shades of red, pink, coral and peach. I mean, if these floral displays are not #WeddingFlowerGoals I don’t know what is! We all spent a good 5-minutes Instagramming the table before even taking to our seats!
As we ate our breakfast models elegantly walked around the room showcasing the 2018 Jenny Packham bridal collection. Jenny had explained to us how the novel ‘The Falling’ had inspired her – a story about a journalist’s fatal attraction to circus acrobat Clara the Swallow. The character of Clara, her exotic beauty, her courage and her love of freedom is captured in the collection. It was beautiful. Think celestial trailing chiffon, flock tulle ruffles, bonded floral lace and oversized satin bows; juxtaposed with tailored cropped jackets, embellished bodies and sculptured corsetry.
Once we knew the inspiration and theme of the collection it was clear how well the floral arrangements had been designed to compliment this. Fiona Burke, the Events Manager from Paul Thomas Flowers, told me that she loved the theme of the Jenny Packham 2018 bridal collection so much so that she’s actually started reading the book herself. (Not a bad shout as I want to order a copy too for my holiday reading! Always on the look out for a book recommendation)
I love flowers but sadly I don’t know too much about them other than what looks beautiful. I’m always fascinated by the process to design flowers for events such as weddings. Fiona said;
“We had to make sure that the flowers fitted with the fun, romantic circus theme of the collection while also complimenting the ornate and formal surroundings of the William Kent room at The Ritz. To create this we used a collection of low vases in different sizes and finishes such as cut glass, gold and copper each filled with a wild dome of seasonal flowers in clashing shades of red, pink, coral and peach. Blousy Peonies and Sweet peas perfect at this time of year were used throughout as well as Ranunculus, Roses, Sweet William and Gloriosia. The fun girlie arrangements worked beautifully and really brought the table to life along with the delicious breakfast being served and the jaw-dropping dresses being showcased.”
My favourite looks from the 2018 Jenny Packham collection are all very different. I fell in love with a scarlet red number with a short ostrich feather skirt, I could imagine this making a fabulous reception dress teamed with a killer pair of heels to dance the night away in! A heavily embellished nude gown would be perfect for brides who want to inject glamour into their look and strike the perfect balance between sexiness and class. And finally, an embellished corset with trousers and tulle overlay would be amazing for a modern bride perhaps looking for something stunning for an elopement, city wedding, vow renewal or even for brides that just don’t like dresses.
